This problem occurs when temperature of your processor above your normal temperature.

1.your room tempertaure may be high.allow some time to cool.
2.you may place laptop in bed or in other disturbing places
3.dust may be accomadated in the air holes of laptop
4.dust may be inside the laptop
5.in rarely condition thermal paste needs to replaced
6.might be problem with the fan

9.update bios is another cause.
10.battery may be fault.disconnect and check with power source.
What are the steps you may take
1.If you are capable of entering to the desktop you may change your power options.in that menu there will be processor management change its settings
2.just clean the air holes in laptop outside.
3.you need to open the laptop and clean dust in fan,holes,heat sink.if you cant ask help someone.or call service technician.
4.if hardware failure the components need to be replaced.
5.if nothing works then reach hp service center.
